Anglican Family Care expands support services for vulnerable Otago children and families.
Anglican Family Care is delighted to have been asked by the Ministry for Vulnerable Children – Oranga Tamariki to expand its social support services for vulnerable children and families into rural areas of Otago.
“It is great that Oranga Tamariki has recognised the increased need for support for families throughout our region, and we are pleased that the high quality of our services and staff has been acknowledged,” said Anglican Family Care Director Nicola Taylor. “We know our early interventions to support parents who are living in difficult circumstances work and help ensure that Otago babies and children have the best start in life.”
The expansion of Home-Based Family Support into Wanaka began on 1 July 2017, while the expansion of the Family Start programme into South Otago, Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes will be rolled out from 1 October. Recruitment is now underway for new social worker positions. Click here for details.
Home-Based Family Support is a voluntary home-visiting service for families with children aged up to 17 that provides support and information for parents around child development, safety and wellbeing; parenting skills and child behaviour management; and linking parents into community and support networks.
Family Start is a voluntary service for pregnant mums or parents of babies who have concerns about how to care for their baby, or are living in circumstances that make it difficult for them to be the parents they want to be, such as isolation from family supports, housing issues, poverty, health problems, addiction or family violence.
All Anglican Family Care’s services aim to build on the strengths of parents and the goals they want to achieve for their children. We accept referrals from midwives, nurses, GPs and other healthcare professionals, schools, pre-schools, other community organisations, grandparents, caregivers and parents themselves.
