Oamaru Welcomes Anglican Family Care Programme

Last week Anglican Family Care and Child, Youth and Family (CYFs) came together to welcome Family Start, a new social services programme in North Otago.

The team from Dunedin celebrated with CYFs over morning tea where the new Family Start staff were welcomed and the Memorandum of Understanding was signed.

The Family Start programme will provide intensive on-going support to parents of young children focusing on health, education and development.

As the population of Oamaru continues to grow, Director Nicola Taylor said “North Otago has been crying out for services like Family Start. It couldn’t come soon enough”

Anglican Family Care, which has been serving Otago since 1970, opened its doors to families in the Waitaki District earlier in the year with its OCEANS Grief and Loss programme.

OCEANS Co-ordinator, Peggy Waite says the Oceans programme has been successful with 12 volunteers currently working in schools across North Otago helping children cope with the loss and change in their life.

The new Oamaru team are eager to get to work to support long-term change in families, enabling children to have a healthy and happy life.
