Ways you can help at Christmas

We are now being asked – how can we support families over Christmas ?
It is a little known fact that Dunedin and the wider Otago area are a most generous and compassionate community, and we do not advertise enough the significant donations and support we receive at Anglican Family Care Centre. We thank the individual donors, but the combined effort and generosity is extraordinary. For example, last Christmas, three children who each have a savings jar, a spending jar and a giving jar at home, chose to buy food and toys to donate to Anglican Family Care.
What can you do to help?
- Toys will be accepted and we will make sure they go to children who would otherwise miss out.
- Anglican Family Care Centre manages a welfare fund to assist with immediate and practical emergencies by way of a grocery voucher to help with nappies, milk formula or food (the voucher is tagged to prevent purchase of alcohol and tobacco). Your donation could go to this.
- Our social workers provide the most extraordinary advocacy, support and teaching of lifeskills to the families who seek our support – if you support this work with a financial donation, we would ensure that the most basic needs of a child can be met. Christmas is a stressful and challenging time for families with stretched finances and other challenges to face.
- The Dunedin social service community works very closely together, and we continue to work with the other Dunedin food banks, including the Combined Christmas Food Bank, who last year assisted 300 families with a Christmas meal and toys. You may wish to give direct to them or we can pass on your donations.
Thank you for your generosity and support- this makes it possible for us to support children and families at Christmas and throughout the year.
