We need your support to reach vulnerable children and families in rural areas of Otago.
In August of 2016, Anglican Family Care was asked by the Ministry of Social Development to expand our Family Start service into Oamaru to meet the high needs of this population following the closure of Parents as first Teachers (PAFT). In order to do this we redirected some of our existing funding and resources and raised additional funds to meet the costs.
Since this expansion into North Otago the Ministry of Vulnerable Children / Oranga Tamariki has acknowledged Anglican Family Care’s impact in this area and the incredible value and difference Family Start is making in the lives of our most vulnerable children.
As a result, we have been asked to expand Family Start into South Otago, Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes District from the 1st October 2017.
We are very excited to be able to expand our services to reach those who live in isolated rural areas in Otago, many of whom lack access to quality services to support them through life’s most difficult circumstances.
But we need your help. The funding we receive from our government partner is only a contribution towards running the service. This funding is greatly appreciated but will only cover the essential cost of front-line staff salaries.
We are appealing to you to help us raise funds for things that enable us to reach vulnerable families in their homes such as vehicles, computers, and phones and to help us cover essential business expenses such as rent, power and office supplies.
If you are able to help us, we are trying to raise $100,000 towards the set-up costs of this expansion. We are aiming to do this by 1 October so that we are ready to meet the needs of these communities.
