Know that your child has the best start on their journey

We sat down with Anglican Family Care Team Leader, Nicky who gave her advice about how the Family Start Programme can help soon-to-be or new parents.

Family life can be a challenge, and having a baby and bringing them up is a difficult job at the best of times.

Last year Anglican Family Care's Family Start Programme supported the families of 269 children under 3 and made over 9,000 visits to clients in their homes.

Team Leader, Nicky says her best advice to a new or soon to be parent who is feeling overwhelmed is to “know how to access the right support at the right time”. She says Family Start helps “families make plans around their goals to support, achieve, obtain, and grow knowledge to be the best possible parent. It’s an awesome opportunity for families.”

If you aren’t sure how to check if your child is healthy and growing strong, if you have problems with your partner or family/ whanau or if your child has a disability or needs special care these are all factors that may impact your confidence as a parent.

Family Start programme, which is available in Dunedin and Oamaru, is a free and voluntary home visiting programme which can provide on-going support to expectant parents and parents of newborn and young children. If you want to support the work that Nicky and the Family Start team are doing you can donate here.
